Yu Rochelle Yuan, Piano
Chinese pianist Yu Rochelle Yuan is recognized for her exceptional technical artistry
and musical sensitivity. A dynamic performer with a captivating stage presence, she
has appeared in concerts and competitions across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Yu began her piano studies at the age of four under the guidance of Feng Wanqi and Guan Changxin. Her early talent soon developed into a deep artistic commitment, earning her top prizes at the Haitai International Piano Competition, the China Youth Music Competition (Hummingbird Music Award), the MTNA State Competition, and the Cremona International Music Competitions. As a result of her success in Cremona, she was invited to perform at Italy’s renowned Museo del Violino. She has also appeared in notable venues including the Van Cliburn Concert Hall, further establishing her presence on the international stage.
Yu has refined her musical voice through masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Arie Vardi, Sa Chen, Norma Fisher, Robert McDonald, Christopher Harding, and Till Fellner.
In addition to her solo work, Yu has toured Israel as a choir pianist and is actively
involved in
chamber music, demonstrating both versatility and a strong commitment to collaborative
artistry. She also studies classical and contemporary vocal repertoire, which continues
to
enrich the depth and expressiveness of her musicianship.
A graduate of Biola University, where she studied under Dr. Li-Shan Hung, Yu is currently
pursuing her MM degree in Piano Performance in New York under the mentorship of Gilbert
Kalish. Where she holds scholarship and teaching assistantship at Stony Brook University.
Through both piano and voice, Yu seeks to create performances that speak directly
to
audiences, fostering moments of shared connection and musical sincerity.
