Shichen Li, Horn

Shichen Li is a horn player currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in horn performance at Stony Brook University, where he studies with David Jolley and serves as a teaching assistant the Horn and University Orchestra. He previously earned his Master of Music degree at the Mannes School of Music, studying with Erik Ralske, Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing under Professor Zhang Chengxin and Dr. Zhang Mimi.

He has collaborated with leading conductors and performers including Paavo Järvi, Zhang Xian, Paul Watkins, and many others, and was invited by Philip Setzer of the Emerson String Quartet to participate in the Manchester Music Festival. His orchestral experience includes performances with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, and the Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, where he has served in a wide range of roles including principal, assistant, second, third, and utility horn. His responsibilities have also included doubling first horn, assisting principal in major repertoire, and extensive transposition work across classical, romantic, and contemporary works.

In addition to his orchestral work, he is an active and committed chamber musician. He has led multiple chamber ensembles, including a Beethoven Septet group, a horn–oboe–piano trio, and a woodwind quintet.
