FlightPartner has completed software integration with Rockwell Collins ArincDirect Flight Scheduling Software (FOS).  FOS is the worlds leading software scheduling system for air charter operations. Completing this integration provides FlightPartner with real-time aircraft availability from the worlds largest charter aircraft operators. We are proud to be the first vendor to integrate with the Rockwell Collins' new software release.  The ability to access real-time aircraft schedules gives the FlightPartner Reservation System accurate information and allows our customers to be confident in meeting their clients travel needs. Completion of the Rockwell Collins FOS integration, along with Seagil BART and Airplane Manager,  gives FlightPartner the ability to access the three most popular charter aircraft scheduling systems. October 21, 2014 - Killer Content to Establish Media Facility at CEWIT - Six Companies Coming to LI for START-UP NY Tax Breaks
The largest investment -- $1.48 million -- was pledged by Killer Content of New York City to establish a media facility at the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology. Killer Content was created by the merger of Killer Films, an independent film company, and Glass Elevator Media, which develops and monetizes content across platforms. Killer Content expects to create 18 jobs.

Stony Brook University is buidling a hackathon where talented makers and creators of all kinds can code their hearts out. Unhackathon will mphasize mentorship, learning, and diversity of hackers and awards, hoping to find not just the coolest hacks, but the greatest. Awards will recognize qualities like technical ambition, thoughtful code, inspired design, and potential for improvements beyond the hackathon. Unhackathon will take place over 36 hours from September 20 to 21st. Hackers are encouraged to learn new skills and technologies by making API resources, hardware and interesting data sets available to everyone. The event will include many inspiring working spaces and advice from mentors coming from the best NYC tech companies and startups.

Charmtech Labs LLC today released Capti Narrator v1.6 for iPhone adding over 100 new high-quality synthetic voices speaking in 26 languages. Capti can be used to listen to news, blogs, and documents from the Browser, Dropbox, Google Drive, Clipboard, and now also Instapaper. Despite being the most comprehensive productivity app for listening to digital content, Capti Narrator remains free. The CEWIT Open House was pleased to welcome a surplus of guests on our May 7th event for an opportunity to explore the Center, experience demos, and learn about our wide range of research and technologies. Colleagues from both academia and industry joined from near and far for an afternoon that featured nineteen CEWIT labs showcasing over fifty current and ongoing research projects intermixed with seventeen exhibitors including four CEWIT incubator companies and the CA Technology Innovation Center. Highlights included CAVE and Reality Deck demos, Charmtech Lab’s Capti Narrator application, CA Technology’s Mobile Application Security demo, student poster presentations, as well as the premier of cDACT’s Drum Circle application. CEWIT thanks our supporting parties for joining us at the event as well as the many new and returning visitors. Stony Brook University hosts the 11th Annual Game Programming Competition where thirteen student finalists present the best features of their game to the audience and a panel of judges, who will then crown a winner.  Past winners have gone on to program for major companies including Microsoft, Viacom, and Nickelodeon Games.

April 21, 2014 - We’ve Gone Mobile!
CEWIT Mobile is now available in the Google Play Store for download. The app will offer all up to date conference and event information, interactive tours for visitors, and many more exciting features.
 
Stony Brook University’s Division of Information Technology (DoIT) has established an undergraduate scholarship fund for a student who demonstrates a strong interest in the field of information technology. Accepting applications through June 1, 2014. 
 
Gaining impressive momentum, the XLDB Healthcare Workshop at CEWIT brings together big industry players and academic leaders from the big data, medical, and informatics sectors for a joint workshop on the application of advanced large-scale data analytics to healthcare.
 
 
Long Island Forum for Technology (LIFT) hosts Dr. Ari Kaufman, CEWIT Chief Scientist, Distinguished Professor and Chair, Department of Computer Science, for a discussion on the development of volume visualization techniques used in scientific visualization and virtual reality applications.
The TALENT Project (Teaching and Learning Enhancements with New Technology) seeks to encourage Stony Brook University faculty to invest their time, talent and energy in partnership with the Teaching, Learning & Technology (TLT) group and the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) to solve teaching and learning challenges for their current or future courses. Grant deadline April 30, 2014.

April 7, 2014 - Stony Brook University to Build Innovation and Discover Center in Research & Development Park
Stony Brook University has received a $60 million appropriation in the 2014 State Budget for the design and construction of the first phase of a new Innovation and Discovery Center to be located in the University’s Research & Development Park alongside the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) and the Advanced Energy Center. The Center, once completed, will enable new start-up and high tech companies to take full advantage of Governor Cuomo’s Start-Up New York tax incentives and other resources available through the two neighboring Centers of Excellence and Stony Brook University at large.

March 10, 2014 - CEWIT Announces XLDB Healthcare and CDDA Workshops May 2014
The back to back workshops will be held at CEWIT May 6 & 7 and May 7 & 8 respectively. Powered by XLDB and Stony Brook Medicine, the XLDB Healthcare Workshop will explore the application of advanced large-scale data analytics to healthcare providing a collaborative and interactive forum for cross-pollination between healthcare leaders and data analytics experts. The Center for Dynamic Data Analytics Spring 2014 Workshop, hosted by Stony Brook University and Rutgers University, will discuss current and future research efforts that focus on dynamic and massive data analytics while garnering both industry and NSF insight.

The Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT), The Advanced Energy Center (AERTC), The Biotechnology Center for Advanced TechnologyThe Sensor Center of Advanced Technology, The Long Island High Technology Incubator (LIHTI), and Stony Brook University are pleased to announce a newly formed partnership with the Israeli Industry Center for R&D (MATIMOP) creating the New York-Israel Innovation Program. The program is now announcing a request for proposals, soliciting joint submissions in the fields of the above Centers. Uniquely offering both individual and bilateral opportunities for collaboration, the program will be accepting all expression of interest (EIO) submissions for review through March 20, 2014.

The solar-powered cooling technology was originally developed by Ryan McGann as an engineering student at Stony Brook University; now returning to renew his efforts through Solar Cool Technologies, a startup company of the University’s Clean Energy Business Incubator Program housed in the neighboring Advanced Energy Center. Professor Yejin Choi and colleagues propose using computers to predict literary success through the examination of the quantitative connection between writing style and successful literature. Based on novels across different genres, the group investigated the predictive power of statistical stylometry in discriminating successful literary works, and identified the stylistic elements that are more prominent in successful writings.

A delegation from KIST visits CEWIT to participate in number of research presentations by both Stony Brook University professors and directors and KIST representatives on topics as sensors, robotics, and visualization. Their visit also included Reality Deck and CAVE demonstrations, ending in a trip to the Advanced Energy Center.

The groundbreaking ceremony was one of the many stops on the Long Island Regional Economic Development bus tour that began at CEWIT for a demonstration of the Reality Deck. The Council also visited the neighboring Advanced Energy Center for a look at Dr. Esther Takeuchi’s lab and an announcement by Governor Cuomo on Thermolift, a Stony Brook University technology that will now expand its operations at the Center.

August 14, 2013 - CEWIT Lends Insight to International Educators 
A group of 14 Principals and Vice Principals from all over China visited Stony Brook University to learn about US secondary and higher education. As part of their week long training program, the group stopped at CEWIT to tour the facility and learn about the numerous research and internship opportunities offered to University students through the Center and its various incubator companies. Their agenda included also visits to local high schools and Ivy League Universities in the tri-state area with incorporated workshops on international student requirements and higher educational systems.

August 6, 2013 - Seminar: Grow Your Business with Stony Brook University Interns
The informational seminar, held at the CEWIT Incubator, instructed company executives on the benefits of hiring student interns this fall and the outlets in which to successfully do so. Small businesses and established companies alike learned how to operate the University-based job listing/recruiting system, skills sets for developing internship programs, opportunities for connecting with students through special events, and understanding of the internship process at large. Hosted by Stony Brook University’s Career Center, the seminars focus on strengthening the relationship between industry and academia here at CEWIT and the University.

June 24, 2013 - Suffolk County's Police Explorers
Suffolk County's Police Explorers visited CEWIT this week for an opportunity to learn about technology careers and experience some of the work and research involved in these fields. The Explorers are a group of 14-20 year old kids interested in law enforcement and civic leadership. One of the main purposes of the program is to provide positive experiences, building knowledgeable, more responsible adults. Their trip to CEWIT involved a demo at the Reality Deck, presentations, and an extensive tour through both CEWIT and the Advanced Energy Center next door.

June 13, 2013 - 2013 Consortium for Thermal Spray Technology Held at CEWIT
The Center for Thermal Spray Research at Stony Brook University hosted its biannual Consortium at CEWIT. The Consortium was established in 1996 as a forum for Center staff, grad students, and post-docs to discuss research achievements, technological advancements, and to promote current awareness on surface engineering as a whole.

May 30, 2013 - Stony Brook University constructed a gigapixel resolution display that offers a full 360 ◦ horizontal field-of-view
This system, called the Reality Deck, is the world’s most expansive large-format display and it is the largest resolution display ever built. It utilizes 416 LCD panels at 2560 × 1440 resolution each, for a combined resolution of more than 1.5 gigapixels. This large-scale visualization facility is housed at the New York State Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology at Stony Brook University.

April 12, 2013 - The Distinguished Lecture Series
The Distinguished Lecture Series (DSL) is an annually organized event by the Computer Science Department that attracts accomplished scientists to both Stony Brook and CEWIT alike for talks. DLS brings together undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty in audiences and discussions, helps motivate undergraduates to get involved in research, and bolsters the stature of the Computer Science Department nationwide. DLS has developed into a premier forum for innovators in Computer Science from around the world to share their knowledge with a broad constituency. The Fall 2012 – Spring 2013 Series was hosted at CEWIT and featured discussions from Joe Halpern, Cornell, Seth Copen Goldstein, Carnegie Mellon, and most recently, Shafi Goldwasser, MIT whom presented a talk on Psuedo Deterministic Algorithms.

April 5, 2013 - GRC Day 2013 at CEWIT
Each year, Computer Science graduate students gather on GRC Day to present talks and posters, sharing their wisdom and latest research progress. Like last year, the GRC coincided with the Open House to appeal to prospective graduate students. The Graduate Research Conference 2013 featured both presentation and poster sessions to include a brief talk on the current and future research of multiple PhD and Master students in the Computer Science Department. The event additionally included a tour of the CEWIT facility and its many labs as well as individual faculty meetings. GRC Day 2013 is hosted annually by the Computer Science Graduate Student Council which works to improve both the social life and careers of graduate students in the Computer Science Department.

The Computer Science Department held an Open House for prospective Ph.D. students on Friday, April 5, 2013. They were given the opportunity to meet with faculty members and current graduate students, and to visit the researchlabs.

February 4, 2013 - Stony Brook Professor Receives Award for Lifetime Achievements in Cardiovascular Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Shmuel Einav, Director of the Medical Technologies Division at CEWIT, awarded the Landau Prize for his renowned cardiovascular system research. The Landau Prize is one of the most prestigious annual awards given to an Israeli scientist for his lifetime achievements incardiovascular biomedical engineering.
