The Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) team will host a high school hackathon on Friday, February 9, 2024. Student from Longwood, Mt. Sinai, Plainview Old Bethpage, Smithtown, Ward Melville, and Westhampton Beach High School to the Research and Development Park at Stony Brook University to collaborate on themed projects and gain hands-on experience in a faced-paced 

Sponsored by Sunrise Technologies, students will work together in teams of four in a race against the clock to develop a new project from the ground up and compete with fellow students for prizes.

Challenges

• Orange4Home: A Dataset of Routine Daily Activities in an Instrumented Home

  The Orange4Home dataset comprises roughly 180 hours of recording of activities of daily living of a single occupant, spanning 4 consecutive weeks of work days. This dataset contains the recordings of 236 heterogeneous sensors scattered seamlessly throughout an apartment, and 20 classes of activities labeled accurately in situ by the occupant, for a total of 493 instances of activities. These caracteristics of Orange4Home make it a suitable dataset for activity recognition algorithms evaluation, as well as activity prediction algorithms evaluation, and other related algorithmic and smart home research problems.

• When and where is the CEWIT High School Hackathon?
  Friday, February 9, 2024. The event is held in-person at the CEWIT building at Stony Brook Research and Development Park. The event will last from 9am to 4pm.
• What are the rules?
  Please view the CEWIT Hacker Rules.
• I've never participated in a hackathon before. How do I get started?
  The CEWIT team will create a series of video walkthroughs on using Replit and will provide resources for all of the teams. Stay tuned for the upcoming tutorials.
• Will help be available if my team and I are stuck on a project?
  Yes, mentors and chaperones will be available to assist you and your team throughout the hackathon.
• Will there be food at the event?
  Yes, CEWIT will provide breakfast and lunch during the event. If you have any food allergies, please let your teachers know and we will try to accommodate all allergies/preferences.
• Wil there be prize categories?
  Yes, the prizes will be announced at the event.
