The Residential Safety Program (RSP) is an organization under Campus Residences Safety
& Support Services. It is a student-based organization that works around the clock
to ensure a safer campus!
Some of our responsibilities include:
Patrolling the Residential Buildings
Checking that external doors are locked and secured
Providing our Walk Service from 12:00 PM - 3:00 AM
Assisting with residential lockouts from 5:00 PM - 6:59 PM (except weekends)
Providing additional support during emergency situations
Helping during the week of Fall move-in

Location and Hours
The Residential Safety Program headquarters is located in O'Neill College (Mendelsohn
Community), and the entrance faces the commuter parking lot.
Our office operates 24/7, even on holidays.
Walk Service
Have you ever studied later than expected and felt concerned about walking back late
at night? RSP provides a walk service to anyone with these concerns! We offer escorts
to all on-campus locations, including the LIRR and the hospital, via the Health Science
underpass.
Please be advised that walks cannot be scheduled in advance, provided to off-campus
locations, or outside of hours when no one is available.

Residential Lockouts
Are you locked out of your building, but the area office is closed, and the RA isn't
on duty yet? RSP can help with that! We can facilitate communication to provide assistance
as quickly as possible.
Please note that if you are locked out when the area office is open or the RA is on
duty, please contact them first. If it is during the listed hours, or you cannot reach
them, please contact us.

RSP hires on a rolling basis, depending on the organization's needs. If you are interested
in joining the Residential Safety Program, please apply for the position when it is
posted on Handshake. Please do not send unsolicited resumes or come to our office
once you have applied, as all applicants will be reviewed and processed via Handshake.
RSP positions are as follows:
Hours of Operation: 3:15 AM - 12:00 PM
AM Security Monitors should be comfortable with walking for extended periods of time,
in all weather conditions.
Ensure the safety of each residential community through the means of walking patrols
and being alert for conditions and incidents that may compromise the safety of the
community.
Responding to emergency situations and reporting information to emergency personnel.
Maintaining the integrity and security of each building by securing propped doors.
Providing a walk escort service throughout Stony Brook University.
Supporting the mission of Residential Safety & Support through cooperation with other
departments (e.g., Residential Fitness Centers).
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Hours of Operation: 4:00 AM - 8:00 AM (Dispatch), 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Patrol)

Answering office phone calls & other administrative tasks.
Responding to emergency situations and reporting information to emergency personnel.
Overseeing dispatch operations for Security officers & Early field workers.
Patrolling the residential halls and reporting emergencies.
Checking doors of residential halls to ensure the security of the buildings.
Assisting emergency personnel and campus officials during emergencies.
Inputting work orders for damages reported in residence halls.
Supporting the mission of Residential Safety & Support through cooperation with other
departments (e.g., Residential Fitness Centers).
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Hours of Operation: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Day Field workers should be comfortable with walking for extended periods of time,
in all weather conditions.
Responding to emergency situations and reporting information to emergency personnel.
Ensuring the safety of each residential community through the means of walking patrols
and inspection of residential safety equipment.
Maintaining the integrity and security of each building by securing propped doors.
Providing a walk escort service throughout Stony Brook University.
Supporting the mission of Residential Safety & Support through cooperation with other
departments (e.g., Residential Fitness Centers).
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Please Note: Due to limited staffing Day and Night field are combined during the summer
intersession.
Hours of Operation: 10:00 PM - 4:00 AM
Night Field workers should be comfortable with walking for extended periods of time,
in all weather conditions.
Responding to emergency situations and reporting information to emergency personnel.
Ensuring the safety of each residential community through the means of walking patrols
and inspection of residential safety equipment.
Maintaining the integrity and security of each building by securing propped doors.
Providing a walk escort service throughout Stony Brook University.
