Room Changes and Swaps

Important Information

A room change or swap into another vacant bedspace may not be possible. Campus occupancy is extremely high, which leaves very few vacancies for room changes. Many residents will need to consider room swaps with other eligible residents if they are looking to change their room.

The Continuing and New Transfer Undergraduate Student Room Swap process will be available starting at 10 AM on May 5, 2025 - July 10, 2025 at 4 PM through the Housing Portal.
The Continuing and New Transfer Undergraduate Student Room Change process will be available starting at 10 AM on July 1 - July 10, 2025 at 4 PM through the Housing Portal.
There is a room change freeze in effect until typically the third week of the fall semester after no-shows and occupancy verification are complete.
Once new first-year students select a space, their room assignment is final. If they are experiencing issues with their new roommate prior to move-in, they are encouraged to reach out to their Area Office and Residence Hall Director for further assistance.
Graduate agreements may have an opportunity for limited need-based room changes and swaps for similar room types in summer. This will be dependent on space availability and what stage of new graduate housing application and selection we are in.

Academic Year Request Timeline:

Room change and swap requests can be made through your community's area office.

Room Change Requests Room Swap Requests

- Monday, September 8 at 11 AM: first day to request a room change/swap.
- Monday, October 20: last day to request a room change/swap.
- Wednesday, October 22: last day to begin move if request is approved.
- Friday, October 24: must be checked out from former room.
After October 24 until Monday, February 9 at 11 AM - No room changes or room swaps will be allowed unless deemed necessary by professional staff due to conduct, facility issues, or ongoing roommate and/or suitemate issues.
- Monday, February 9 at 11 AM: first day to request a room change/swap.
- Monday, March 2: last day to request a room change/swap.
- Wednesday, March 4: last day to begin move if request is approved.
- Friday, March 6: must be checked out from former room.
After March 6: No room changes or room swaps will be allowed unless deemed necessary by professional staff due to conduct, facility issues, or ongoing roommate and/or suitemate issues.

High-Demand Housing Waitlist

The High-Demand Housing Waitlist is designed for students who already have an on-campus housing reservation but are interested in moving to a different or specific housing option. This waitlist allows students to request a change to a residence hall, room type, or community that is in higher demand and often has limited availability.

The following high-demand waitlists are offered:

Eligibility to Participate:
- Students must have 57 or more credits, including the current semester enrollment, at the time of applying
- Students must not be on residential or disciplinary probation with the University
Waitlist Launch Date:
- For U4 students on June 20, 2025
  - Male/GIH: 10 AM
  - Female: 11 AM
Eligibility to Participate:
- Students must have previously been selected to be eligible for 2YLC but were unable to select a space within the community during returning resident room selection.
Waitlist Launch Date:
- June 20, 2025
  - Male/GIH: 10 AM
  - Female: 11 AM
Eligibility to Participate:
- Must be a graduate student who does not currently have an assignment in this room type.
Waitlist Launch Date:
- August 25, 2025
  - Male/GIH: 12 PM
  - Female: 1 PM

The high-demand housing waitlist will close on February 20, 2026, and will not accept any new applicants. The following Tuesday will be the last day for any waitlist offers for 2025-2026, pending space availability.
