What is a Small Business?

A small business enterprise is identified as a business that employs 100 or fewer persons and is resident in New York State, independently owned and operated, and not dominant in its field.

The Small Business Development Center at Stony Brook University provides no‑cost, confidential advising and resources to help entrepreneurs start, grow, and manage their businesses, connecting them with expert guidance, market research, and support programs.
