Transfer Credit
All students who wish to complete the requirements for the Biochemistry major must take Biochemistry I and II (BIO 361 and 362) at Stony Brook University and must complete at least a minimum of nine (9) additional credits at Stony Brook in required upper-division Biology courses (BIO 310, BIO 320 or other approved Genetics, and BIO 365) and/or approved upper-division Biology elective courses (see the Undergraduate Catalogue for list of approved electives).
Biochemistry majors who matriculated as Freshman at SBU and are considering taking courses outside of The University or as part of a study abroad program must adhere to the above policy. Prior to enrolling in any courses be sure to obtain a transfer evaluation and confirm that taking the course will not pose a problem for credit transfer (for example credits in a term exceeding Registrar's credit limit for the term).
Transfer students also have to follow the biochemistry major course residency rules outlined above and should work closely with the transfer student office to determine transfer course equivalency. You can search the Stony Brook Transfer Equivalency Database to see if your courses have already been evaluated. Students may need to provide course information including but are not limited to text book, syllabus, lectures notes, exams, papers, etc in order to determine transfer equivalency. Biology course transfer evaluation is determined by the Biology Undergraduate Division. You will also need to submit your transcripts and course syllabus to Undergraduate Biology using this Google Form. Other course equivalency is determined by the respective departments.
