Understanding undergraduate credits
By enrolling in an ACE course, you are creating an academic record at Stony Brook University. The final grade you earn in your high school course will be the grade that appears in your Stony Brook record.*
Using or transferring credit
If you become a Stony Brook University student, you will start your first year with the course credits you earned on your academic transcript. No further action is required by you.
If you will be attending a different institution, you will need to transfer your credits. While the decision to accept transfer credit from Stony Brook University is at the discretion of the receiving institution, experience shows that courses that earn a "C" or better are generally accepted by a broad range of colleges and universities throughout the country.
Generally speaking, most SUNY institutions accept all SBU transfer credits. In particular, any course that fulfills General Education requirements at SBU will be accepted by all SUNY institutions.
Suggested actions
- If there are institutions you are particularly interested in attending, contact the admissions offices of the schools to inquire about the transfer of Stony Brook University credits prior to enrolling in an ACE course.
- Save course syllabi in case the institution asks to reference them when deciding whether to accept the transfer credit.

*Exception: SBU's grading scale is A-F, so A+ grades will be recorded as an A.

Accessing your SBU student record
Official transcripts for completed ACE courses will be available in July. At that time, we will email you your Stony Brook University ID number, which you can use to view your academic record online via SOLAR, the University's student information system.
You can download an unofficial transcript within SOLAR at no charge.
Requesting an official transcript
When it's time to transfer your credits to another institution, you will need to request an official transcript through Parchment, the service SBU uses to generate and send both paper and electronic transcripts. Official transcripts require payment, so make sure to review your unofficial transcript to ensure your credits have posted before you pay to send your transcript. How to order an official transcript
