Program overview

Stony Brook University’s Accelerated College Education (ACE) Program is a concurrent enrollment program that bridges the gap between high school and college. With ACE, motivated students can earn Stony Brook University credit while completing approved courses at their high school.

ACE partners with 85 high schools across Suffolk and Nassau Counties, New York City, and internationally in Taipei, serving both public and private institutions. We currently offer courses across multiple academic disciplines, with each course worth 1-4 college credits depending on the subject.

All ACE courses are taught by University-approved high school instructors and align courses taught at Stony Brook.

How It Works

When you enroll in an ACE course at your high school, you also become a non-matriculated, part-time student at Stony Brook University. Upon successful completion of the course, your final grade is recorded on an official Stony Brook University transcript, using the standard university grading scale (A through F). This transcript becomes part of your permanent academic record and may be submitted as part of your college applications.

Credits earned through ACE are widely transferable. Students who earn a grade of C or higher typically see broad acceptance of their credits at colleges and universities across the country. Within the SUNY system, ACE credits from Stony Brook are generally accepted when comparable courses are offered.

For colleges outside of SUNY, credit transfer decisions are made by the receiving institution. We recommend contacting admissions offices in advance to confirm their specific transfer policies.
