Computational Science & AI Workforce Lunch and Learn for IACS Students

The Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR) in partnership with the Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS) hosted the third Lunch and Learn, as part of a new initiative launched by the Office of Economic Development. This iteration, focused on AI, quantum computing, and predictive analytics, took place on February 7th, and was attended by 20 undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students from a multitude of disciplines, including computer science, electrical engineering, physics, and applied math.

Speakers for this Lunch and Learn were Marianna Bonanome, PhD, Head of External Education Programs, SandboxAQ, Yu Sun, CEO, Sunrise Technologies, and Mahfuz Ali Shuvra, PhD, Senior Data Scientist, Distribution System Planning, Eversource Energy Inc. Presentation themes included applications of quantum computing in healthcare and aerospace industries, use of AI for programming robotics, and analytics-based simulation for utility transmission planning. Following the presentations, students and faculty interacted with the speakers to inquire about internship opportunities and guidance on career pathways.
