Who We Are & What We Do
The Office of Proposal Development (OPD) advances university priorities by supporting the development and preparation of highly competitive grant proposals. OPD is committed to providing the Stony Brook University (SBU) research community with a comprehensive suite of services to foster the development and growth of research activities. Our services include providing strategic intelligence to help faculty prepare for upcoming opportunities and align their work with agency priorities. We also assist with identifying extramural funding opportunities, coordinating limited submission competitions, nurturing research collaborations, and connecting researchers to institutional resources. OPD manages the Office for Research and Innovation (OR&I) Seed Grant Program, which supports innovative scientific and scholarly activities that are aligned with existing or upcoming funding priorities. We also organize large-scale events and workshops, and trainings in grantsmanship; coordinate external grantwriting, copy editing, and graphic design services; and manage a repository of grant proposal materials. We provide comprehensive proposal development and management services, handling proposal administrative requirements and acting as project managers throughout the proposal development process. We leverage our forward-thinking approach to research development to provide faculty with both strategic and tactical support, ensuring that they have a competitive edge in securing external research funds.
