Wecome to Fall 2025 from OEA

We would like to take this opportunity, at the start of the academic year, to remind all students, faculty, and staff that the Office of Equity and Access (OEA) serves to ensure equal opportunity in education and employment for the entire University community.

Below you will find more information on the services we provide, training you may be required to complete this fall, and the University polices which ensure equitable access for all students, faculty and staff.


Required / Available Training

On-Demand Training Opportunities are Available for All Faculty, Staff, and Students. 

ReportIt: Ending Sexual Misconduct

SUNY Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 

All Employees: both programs are required annually.  This includes student- employees.

Student E-Board Members: Both programs are required annually.

Onboarding or New Students: ReportIt: Ending Sexual Misconduct is required when you arrive on campus.

Student Athletes: ReportIt: Ending Sexual Misconduct is required annually.

These programs also are available for all other students who wish to participate.

University Hospital employees can find their training in HealthStream. 

All students and west campus, HSC and other employees can find their program in Brightspace, our campus-wide LMS.

Report Allegations of Discrimination

Allegations of discrimination on the basis of all protected classes under federal or state law can be reported using our form Reporting Allegations of Discrimination. University policy requires all Responsible Employees, which includes all supervisors and faculty members, to report any alleged incidents of discrimination to OEA.  

Report Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

Allegations of sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment and sexual violence, can be reported using our form Reporting Allegations of Sexual Misconduct. University policy requires all Responsible Employees, which includes all supervisors and faculty members, to report any alleged incidents of sexual misconduct to OEA.

Report an Accessibility Barrier

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, OEA will work with partner offices to address accessibility barriers brought to our attention through the use of our Accessibility Barrier Report Form

Request a Disability Accommodation

In compliance with the ADA, OEA provides reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities when required to perform an essential job function. Disability-based accommodations can be requested using the Employee Disability Accommodation Request Form.

Request a Religious Accommodation

In compliance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, OEA provides religious accommodation unless doing so would create an undue hardship.  An accommodation can be requested  using our Religious Accommodation Report Form.  

Ensuring Equitable Recruitment

OEA partners with Human Resources, the School of Medicine, and the Office of the Provost to ensure Equal Employment Opportunity and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws in our hiring processes.

Policy on Relationships

It is the policy of Stony Brook University that employees in supervisory or
instructional positions shall not engage in or pursue a romantic and/or sexual relationships with any subordinates or where an apparent or inherent power imbalance exists between the parties.  Full policy.

Accommodating Pregnant Students

Stony Brook University will engage in an interactive process with a pregnant student who requires necessary medical leave and/or reasonable accommodation to implement a plan that: allows the student to continue in or resume their academic program and is not an undue burden on the University.  Full policy. 

Chosen or Preferred Name or Pronoun Policy

It is the policy of the University to provide all members of our community with the opportunity to use a chosen or preferred name that is different from their legal name, where possible.  Full policy.

The University will deliver Electronic and Information Technologies (EIT) (i.e., digital content and information technology resources) in a manner that is accessible to persons with disabilities.  Full policy.
