Offshore WindREADY

The Manufacturing Resource and Technology Consortium hosted representatives from 38 New York-based companies at CEWIT on October 12 for training in how to enter the growing offshore wind supply chain. Offshore Wind Ready, delivered by The Business Network for Offshore Wind and sponsored by Community Offshore Wind, gathered manufacturers, union business leadership, infrastructure managers, and engineering service providers for an immersive discussion of near-term energy projects and the lifecycle of bringing renewable power onshore.

Training leader Hunter Stephenson from the Business Network and his team developed content tailored to the New York marketplace, including project updates, policy guidance, and comparisons to neighboring states. Following lunch, Community Offshore Wind’s Lyle Sclair discussed procurement, broke down OEM versus supplier needs, and gave the cohort an overview of National Grid’s electric van. Afterwards, an in-depth look at manufacturing needs, shipping and logistical innovations, turbine components, and required certifications was provided.

To close this full-day event, an expert-led panel discussion consisting of Ian Robertson, Seajcks, Owen Rataj, Kalypso Offshore Energy, Lyndie Hice-Dunton, National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium, and Kevin Pearce, Aker Solutions fielded questions from the attendees on best practices in entering the supply chain, while giving insight into both opportunities and hurdles.

Upon conclusion of the event, an attendee was quoted as remarking, I found the training very informative and it gave me a better understanding of the Offshore Wind Industry and some of the opportunities it will have for Manufacturers in the Tri-State area.
