ABSTRACT
Enhancing Warfighter Trust in Psychological Performance Assessment by Sensors
The nature of warfare is evolving from the utilization of large quantities of humans as warfighting assets to the selection of high performing humans augmented by machines. In selected cases, high performing warfighters have incentives to conceal their psychological state and physiological deficiencies from themselves and others. Self-evaluation and self-deception related to affect, mood, capability, and behavior can generate situations that can compromise the warfighter or the Nation. With advancements in human-machine teaming, various types of sensors now provide objective characterization of human psychological state and behavior prediction. Various novel technological methods that illuminate human performance and the usefulness of these methods on the warfighter are discussed along with recommendations for enhancing psychological trust in sensor capability.
