ABSTRACT

Smart World, Data Privacy, Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET), and Attribute Based Encryption (ABE)

Smart World asks for large number of IoT devices/Sensors to be deployed to generate sufficient data so that things around us can act smartly. While this concept provides huge value and benefits to wide spectrum of applications from building management, Industry, healthcare and such, the data generated touches personal privacy and security in many ways. There are several emerging technologies that are considered as PETs (Privacy Enhancing Technologies). These technologies can be utilized to protect privacy, but they are not created equal. Attribute Based Encryption (ABE), as part of the PETs family, brings two key elements together - access control and data protection. This presentation will discuss some use cases and benefits without getting into the details of cryptographic technologies.
