We are looking for our next Chair!
Stony Brook University, College of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Department of Biomedical
Engineering, for the Chair, Department of Biomedical Engineering. The position is
a renewable five-year chair for a full-time tenured faculty member at Stony Brook
University.
Stony Brook BME is housed between CEAS and Stony Brook's School of Medicine, with
a mission to integrate engineering and biology to advance therapeutics, diagnostics
and medical devices. It comprises 22 core faculty and 50 additional faculty, with
Fall 2025 enrollments of 222 undergraduates, 33 masters, and 52 PhD students.
Strategic opportunities include expanding curricular offerings and developing new
degree programs, in collaboration with other units. The Chair will expand research
in areas of national importance, leveraging strengths in artificial intelligence,
medicine and healthcare, energy, quantum information systems, sustainability, and
related AI research.
Qualifications: Required - an earned doctorate in a discipline appropriate for a faculty
appointment in the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences; a distinguished record
of research, teaching, and academic mentoring commensurate with appointment as a tenured
full professor at Stony Brook University; a proven track record of scholarship and
the ability to support a vibrant research program. Preferred - demonstrated academic
leadership experience, inclusive and collaborative leadership, administrative experience,
and fundraising; senior researchers from industry or government are encouraged to
apply.
Appointment terms include a renewable five-year term with an underlying tenured full
professor position, plus an administrative salary supplement and other forms of support.
Terms such as salary, teaching load, outside engagements, and summer compensation
are negotiable.
