Juliana Dovi, from Long Island NY, earned her undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University, with a major in Marine Science and minor in Environmental Studies. After graduating, she immediately began the Marine Conservation and Policy (MCP) program and graduated in 2024.

Her capstone project, “The Advantages of Discussing Difficult Environmental Concerns Through In-Person Workshops Aimed at Scientific Collaboration and Education,” was mentored by Dr. Anne McElory. Juliana shared that completing this project was the highlight of her time in the MCP program as it allowed her to engage directly with leading coral reef scientists and witness how in-person collaboration can drive meaningful environmental action.

She credits MAR 557: Case Study and Project Planning Seminar as the class that most helped her career. This course introduced her to many organizations related to her interests, one of which led to an internship with Atlantic Marine Conservation Society during her time in MCP.

Juliana is currently the Museum Manager and Program Coordinator for the Long Island Explorium where she helps book programs and teaches STEM related camps and field trips. In addition, she also works as the weekend Education Manager at the Long Island Aquarium where she has been since 2018. She was able to grow from intern in high school to manager after the MCP program.

When asked what she loves most about her current role, Juliana says it is sharing her passion for STEM with students of all ages. “I enjoy when students collaborate to tackle the challenges we have presented to them…. It is rewarding watching them walk away feeling empowered to pursue a role as a scientist or engineer!”
