President's Distinguished Travel Grants
Supporting national and international scholarship in the arts, humanities, and social sciences
Deadline: March 11, 2026
Maximum Award Amount: $2,000
Covers travel from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026
Eligibility
- Faculty in arts, humanities, or social sciences fields are eligible to apply.
- Junior faculty will be given priority in awarding travel grants.
- Lecturers and research staff, including library personnel, may apply.
- Proposals from senior faculty members may be considered if the conference will move their research forward significantly or help them to establish themselves in a new field of inquiry.
Craft your Proposal
Your 1-2 page proposal should include your name, departmental contact information, and the following criteria:
- Describe and justify your attendance at the conference, including whether you are delivering a paper.
- Explain the significance of the paper to your research or scholarship.
- Explain the significance of the venue in which you will deliver your paper.
- Provide a budget with a detailed cost breakdown, including justified estimates for each component (i.e., Google Flights estimates for specific airfare, as well as ground transportation, hotel, and conference registration). Please note that travel grants do not cover food or per dieum reimbursements.
- Describe any other internal or external funding opportunities (to be applied for, pending, or received) to support your travel. Be as specific as possible.
Proposals do not need to request the maximum award amount; it may be in the applicant’s best interest to request a lower amount.
After Proposals are Awarded
Faculty who recieve travel grants will work with Stony Brook Procurement's Travel and Card Programs to submit expenses and receive reimbursements.
