Students Interested in Applying to EOP (2026-27 Academic Year)
For students who meet both the academic and economic eligibility (SUNY guidelines) please see the following for instructions on how to submit an application and the admissions process EOP applicants.
Step 1: Apply
To apply to SBU, you will need to submit an application using the SUNY Application
(and SUNY App Supplement), or the Common App, indicating your interest in being considered
for EOP
- Admissions will also require your high school transcript, showing achievement made for all high school coursework, and at least 1 letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher.
- Stony Brook is test optional for applicants. Admission to Stony Brook is based on a holistic review of a student's academic record including the overall grade point average and strength of curriculum, as well as other academic and personal factors such as co-curricular and community involvement, evidence of leadership, special talents or interest.
*Applicants for EOP are encouraged to follow our Early Action application deadline,
however, students may still apply and have their application reviewed for academic
eligibility after the deadline on a space available basis.
Step 2: Submit Financial Documents
Students who request consideration for SUNY's Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) on their first-year application for admission must complete an EOP Financial Eligibility Review screening to determine whether they meet the financial eligibility requirements.
EOP applicants will be directed to the SUNY EOP Financial Eligibility Review portal after indicating their interest for consideration for EOP and have completed the application for admission, whether using the SUNY application, the Common application:
- SUNY Application applicants: suny.edu/applysuny
- Common Application applicants: suny.edu/EOPFinInfo
In these portals, EOP applicants will be asked to submit their SUNY EOP Financial Information Form and to upload their EOP financial documentation. Students may attend virtual completion workshops when offered by SUNY, but can also chat with SUNY online, or call them at 1-800-342-3811 for assistance anytime.
- Please Note: All documents must be submitted to SUNY directly for determination of financial eligibility.
Step 3: Reviewed for EOP Admission
At Stony Brook University, Admissions will be reviewing EOP applicants for academic eligibility according to our guidelines. Once a student has been determined to be both academically eligible for SBU by our team, and economically eligible for EOP by SUNY, Admissions can only then consider that applicant for a seat in our class. As always, due to the highest number of EOP applicants in the system, eligibility does not guarantee admission at SBU.
