Nurse Practitioner - Clinical Instructor

Required Qualifications

Current New York State RN License. Master's Degree in Nursing. New York State certification as a Nurse Practitioner in area of specialty. Five (5) years experience in nursing to include two (2) years appropriate specialty experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Intensive Care experience. Recent Nurse Practitioner experience with cardiac patients through full range of therapies from diagnostic testing through hospital stay. Previous teaching experience and involvement in community organisations.

Responsibilities & Requirements

To provide on-site, 24 hour medical care and coverage, including assistance with procedures, both in-patient and out-patient, routine follow up, in both the clinic and in patient units, and emergency interventions, to patients admitted to the Cardiac Service, under the authority of the identified supervising physician. Provide direct therapeutic medical management (according to the Practice Agreement) to cardiac surgical patients throughout the various University Hospital units in which they reside. Conduct rounds, assist the Surgical Attending per instruction, serve as a resource to nursing staff and work closely with other hospital staff; follow up on patient status independently to ensure proper treatment.

All clinical data is kept up to date in the medical record, daily charting of assessment and treatment is completed, discharge summaries dictated on a timely basis. All chart completion is accomplished in a thorough and timely manner.

Quickly assist and appropriately manage emergency issues with cardiac surgical patients. Interpret policies to support decision-making related to patients and families, participate in hospital committees, promote continuing education for PAs, NPs and nurses, attend seminars in surgery, attend continuing education classes/seminars as needed.

The Cardiothoracic Surgical Nurse Practitioner is expected to stay current in surgical patient care issues, to participate in appropriate continuing education and to maintain current licensing and credentialing.

This is a night shift position, hours are 6:30pm-7:30am.

This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
