Assistant/Associate Professor

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in a Chemistry/Radiochemistry, or Chemical Engineering.  Demonstrated track record, in the form of publications, conference presentations or other documentation, in developing and producing novel 11C and/or 18F labeled PET radiotracers for the use in humans or preclinical species.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on multidisciplinary teams including imaging scientists and clinical researchers.  Experience developing PET radiotracers and synthesis procedures for 11C and 18F labeled compounds.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Senior Research Scientist will play a lead role in designing and producing different radiotracers for human and animal use, including labeled tracers, and the development of standard operating procedures for tracer production.  The Senior Research Scientist will work closely with the PET Core and other research scientists in the SBU community in identifying molecular targets and metabolic pathways of interest for in vivo imaging.  The Senior Research Scientist will guide  and participate in the development pipeline from the initial discovery phase through to full in vivo imaging applications.  

  • Design and produce different radiotracers for human and animal use including [C-11] and [F-18] labeled tracers.
  • Prepare and submit research papers and abstracts/manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals and relevant learned societies.
  • Submit grant proposals to government and private funding agencies and eventually generate funding for projects and portion of her/his salary.  
  • Up to 4 weeks per year, oversee production of radiotracers for research studies in human subjects and perform the duties of releasing chemist , under the supervisor of the Director of the FERM laboratory.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.  Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
