Building Success with the Small Business Development Center Program
On Monday, March 25th, the Stony Brook University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) successfully concluded a three-week program called “Build Your Success” that provided tailored guidelines and support to Latino entrepreneurs. The event was hosted in the Brentwood Public Library and supported by M&T Bank.
This intensive training program was aimed to empower minority business owners and enhance their understanding of opportunities in New York's thriving construction market. The program focused on crucial aspects of a construction business such as familiarity of the labor law, different types of insurances necessary, and how to access government contracts. Forty participants from diverse businesses were able to receive answers to key questions in the field, get hands-on insights and knowledge from nine business experts, and participate in several interactive exercises that helped to assimilate the content they had gathered.
SBDC continually organizes and supports programs in Spanish for the Latino entrepreneurial community on Long Island. The goal of this on-going initiative is to provide business owners with the knowledge and skills necessary to elevate their companies to the next level and seize opportunities in today's business environment. The “Build Your Success” program was a first-time initiative in the construction area. The program was organized by Jacqueline Franco, SBDC Business Advisor and Marketing Specialist, and supported by the SBDC’s director Bernard Ryba, as well as by the SBDC team: Martha Stansbury, Clifford Chandler, and intern Melany Bonilla.
