Accounting Minor

Minor in Accounting

Enhance Your Degree with Accounting Expertise

The value of the accouning Minor

The Accounting Minor provides students with a strong academic foundation in accounting, serving as a basis for further advanced study at the graduate level. Students who declare the minor often continue their accounting education by enrolling in the MBA or MS in Accounting and Analytics (MSAA) program to prepare for the Uniform Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) exam and a career in public accounting.

The current version of the Accounting Minor will remain unchanged and open to all students through Spring 2026. Beginning in Fall 2026, the minor will be revised and offered exclusively to non-business students, while business students who wish to focus on accounting will have the opportunity to switch to the new Accounting Major.

In summary:

        • Accounting Minor (current version): Available through Spring 2026 for all students.
        • Accounting Minor (revised version): Effective Fall 2026, available to non-business students only.
        • Accounting Major: Available Fall 2026 and beyond for business students interested in pursuing accounting more deeply.

This structure ensures flexibility and provides clear pathways for students interested in accounting.

*After admission, students will continue under the same version of the minor until all requirements are completed.

Make the Most of the Accounting Minor

Business Management Major Students:

Completing the accounting minor will substitute for an area of specialization.

We recommend that when Business majors need help with semester scheduling, they should first see their CoB Advisor for core course requirements and then see an Academic Advisor in  Academic and Transfer Advising Services.

Non-Business Students:

We recommend that when Accounting Minor students need help with semester scheduling, they should first see their Major Advisor and an Academic Advisor in Academic and Transfer Advising Services for core course and SBC requirements before meeting with a CoB advisor.

Students who wish to see a CoB Advisor for help with semester scheduling should do so in plenty of time (i.e., about 1-2 months) before an upcoming registration period. This is particularly important for students in the first or second semester of their Senior Year. It is not unusual for Business majors to see an Advisor every semester, especially after their Sophomore Year.
